Game 20, Restaurant 10 & 11 – Cubs vs. Pirates

Saturday, June 8, 2013
Restaurant #10 – Yakzie’s
Restaurant #11 – The Bistro
Heather, Wigs, Kevin & Julie

Ernie Banks #14 Flag Day!  I got there early enough to score a flag.  It was another crowded day in the bleachers, and when sun was out, it was warm, but when clouds came, it was a little chilly.  And finally a 3:05 game on a Saturday, which allowed us to get stuff done before the game.  Kev helped Wigs on the front porch, while I finished a book.  Yes, that is too getting stuff done!!

AJ Burnett vs. Samardzija – Opening Day redo.  Too bad the outcome wasn’t the same.  Burnett was on his game, and was close to pitching a complete game (8.1 innings on 112 pitches).  He was lifted after Soriano blasted a 2 run shot to Waveland.  Burnett wasn’t happy about being pulled, and I don’t blame him.  Smardz also had 112 pitches but only went 6 innings, striking out 7.  Pedro Alvarez hit a 2-run homer to Sheffield Ave and Russell Martin also had another homer (2nd in as many days).

Kevin & Wigs left the game early to try and secure seats someplace to watch the Hawks game.  They ended up at Yakzies of all places – primarily due to seating and screen viewing options.  After the game ended, Heather & I were scouring the bleachers for leftover flags and she was able to snag a couple.  Then we headed over to Yakzie’s, which we’ve decided to call Restaurant #10 since it wasn’t on our list.  We had some hot wings and toasted ravioli.  Food was really slow in coming out (and I get that it was right after a game, but still..) and drinks were expensive (game day pricing), and we decided that we would move after the 1st period.  Sideways thumb at best.  We were debating on Bernie’s and then the Bistro, or just going to the Bistro.  So we opted for Bistro.  Which we decided to call Restaurant #11 since again, it wasn’t a repeat (for blog purposes..).

TJ was working, and told Kev if the Hawks lost, he would be banned for life.  KD also met up with us and filled us in on the previous day's drama.  We had broccoli, sausage and tomato pizza, and the boys split a Super Cuban sandwich and tots in addition to the pizza.  All was really good.  The Hawks game was exciting - 2 quick goals made everyone feel like we had it in the bag.  I think for the Hawks too.  There was 9 seconds left in regulation, and the Kings scored.  Ouch. Nothing doing in the 1st overtime period.  The double overtime made for a late night and Wigs was very tired after working on his front porch.  Then Kev fessed up that he dozed off during the Cub game!  Ha ha.  These guys apparently need a nap after the hard porch labor!!  Kaner with the hat trick and the goal in double OT, and the HAWKS ARE GOING TO THE STANLEY CUP!!!!!!   Hurray!!!!  First game is Wednesday night.  Wigs said he is not going to softball.  : )
